Week 2 - MBA 6101 - TikTok Branding

TikTok is one of the biggest, if not the reigning king, of social media. TikTok is a platform that allows creators share videos that can be from 15 seconds to 1 minute long. TikTok takes over for its successor Vine, where individuals are able to create videos whenever they would like and share their experiences, knowledge, and moments with others. At times, it can be random content that will catch the audience’s eye. Other times, it is carefully planned videos that allow content creators to generate fans and a general following allowing them to earn popularity and a source of income. TikTok is divided between educational content and “turn off your brain and laugh” content that allow the audience to immerse themselves in a different world.

As a potential advertiser on TikTok, my personal view would first and foremost begin with understanding who the content creator is, what type of content they produce, will it benefit or harm my brand, and who they are as overall human beings. Should they meet the positives of these requirements, I would feel more comfortable to offer an advertising deal to them and increase interaction with my business. Educational content does have a stronger opportunity to generate more interaction with TikTok users and more exposure for my brand. For example, the account @Partyshirt, or known as the “Fact or Cap Guys”, develop videos that test TikTok videos on different hacks or techniques that can seem too good to be true. They offer a real time experience to allow the audience to get a true sense of whether something that is going viral on TikTok is true or the magic of video editing to fool the audience. This type of content resonates with the audience as it educates them on either a new technique or it removes the curiosity about something they viewed.

As a potential creator, I would look to provide truthful information to the audience while providing them knowledge that may not be common. Sometimes, it can help relating with knowledge that is common, but unspoken. I would look to offer videos that allow the audience to feel they have experienced or learned something new once they swipe. Should my content leave an impression on them, my following will grow and allow me to impact more people around the world.
