Week 8 - MBA 6101 - Surfing the Tsunami

Courses on AI are becoming more popular as local college, online programs, and even certification programs offer some level of teaching. In my experience, Khan Academy, Udemy, or Coursera have been the best options in learning new skills and topics at your own pace. They allow users to pick up the courses at their own time and freedom allowing one to learn about machine learning and other parts of AI. This, in turn, can be beneficial if one is looking to work in the technology sector for Google, Microsoft, etc. where AI has become intertwined in the business.  In my personal experience, Udemy has been one of the easiest platforms to use when wanting to learn about anything. With different courses available regarding AI and machine learning, one can spend quite a bit of time enhancing their own skills. AI looks to be the future of the technology/business sector and it is important to embrace it and mold it rather than pushback on it. AI can do a lot of good if used properly and can ...

Week 8 - MBA 6101 - Guerrilla Marketing

As an entrepreneur, it is of the utmost importance to understand what the customer is asking for. Learning your market, understanding what customers like and do not like about your product can help understand how to make your product better or create new ones that will further interest them. Levinson shares in the text that it is important to “…test, test, and test.” (Levinson, pg. 84, 2007) The biggest and best companies today are always trying to connect with their customers in some way and understand what their needs are. Keeping opened ears and showing that the customer is heard can further increase their loyalty to your brand and wanting to support over the years.  Today’s world makes it very easy to understand what consumers are looking for. For example, Sonic the Hedgehog, a classic Sega game turned movie, was announced and yet, Sonic looked distorted and not how the fanbase expected. In return, the viewers immediately flocked to social media to share their distraught ...

AI exists in almost every aspect of the technological realm. As shared in the text, it can be used for educational purposes, such as, coursera where individuals are able to take online courses and learn new skills. (Kelsey, pg. 153, 2018) Google is the company that consistently comes to mind when thinking of AI. Google systems use AI throughout its business as it allows for better understanding of their customer base and to deliver results more appropriate the customer. Another big platform within Google that uses AI is YouTube. YouTube does an excellent job in machine learning to understand the current trend a viewer is on and recommend videos accordingly. It allows creators to be discovered more frequently while matching to what the consumer is currently interested in. The demand for AI is increasing as new programs, services, and websites find ways to use it. It is important for more individuals to get on board with it and allow programs to enhance one’s business to new prospects. L...

To determine if the marketing campaign is worth the effort, it. is important to review that the marketing campaign is profitable before looking to scrap it. It is best to weigh the campaign based off its profiting dollars rather than removing it completely to save money. As shared in the text, the accountant will be the best for this as they can tell if a campaign is slowing down or still drawing in money. (Levinson, p. 71, 2007) Another method in getting one’s product/service out in the world is to offer a trade, or barter, that the other party would be interested in. Doing so allows both parties to receive a fair but needed end of the trade that allows them to move forward in their own business.  In the marketing world, products/services can be promoted in almost any aspect that will create sales. Today’s digital world allows for a better way of tracking marketing efforts and developing stronger connections with customers. Bartering has become extremely popular in the digital wor...

Week 7 - MBA 6101 - Ascend Your Start-Up

At the pinnacle of your business, not everyone will believe in what your business stands for and is looking to bring forward. However, this is the moment where you cannot panic; instead, this is the moment where the fear should motivate and energize you to grow at higher rate and be willing to take risks. One of the biggest lessons that has paid off over time is taking care of one’s employees. Company culture is extremely important as it sustains growth. (Yu, pg., 145, 2021) For example, the CEO and founder of Chobani Yogurt provides share options and other benefits to his employees showing that the company is not another “get rich” business. Instead, the founder shows compassion to all his employees and shows that their health, both physical and mental is important for his business to grow. Building trust with one’s employees is extremely important. Employees must be behind the full vision and mission that the founder has set. To do this, the founder must keep the road open both ways ...

Week 6 - MBA 6101 - Google Ad Campaign

Image
Google Ads is an excellent method of sharing information about one's company. In simple steps, it allows one to provide Google with the basic information and even provides a great preview of what the ad will look like. After the basics are identified, the process shows you what the recommended budget should be for the ad. However, one has the flexibility of where they would like their budget to be as not every company can afford a high dollar marketing campaign. Once all the payment information is given, the ad goes for approval by Google to ensure it meets their terms and restrictions as well as follows their set guideline as to what they would like advertised within their search engine. Once it's approved, the ad is up and running!  Google Ads provides a great feature by allowing one to customize every single aspect of their ad. They can control their targeted audience, what they are looking for in their ads, what keywords to target, etc. Although these tasks can be complic...

Week 6 - MBA 6101 - Surfing The Tsunami

Image
Machine learning is one of the most common ways AI is used in business. It allows companies to let programs learn business flow and allows them to take over the processes. In addition to this, it requires less resources towards hiring someone that can handle that process and allows one to focus on bigger picture tasks. Kelsey provides the example of DataRobot, a machine learning program that can take on many tasks. However, competition is increasing as Amazon and Google develop their own programs that have been created with stronger resources.  To learn more about AI, it does not need to be a typical textbook style research. Instead, AI exists well within various platforms that allow one to learn about it in a much more enjoyable manner. YouTube is a great platform where one can search for various videos that teach about AI and its influence on society and businesses. It can even teach you how to use an AI program within your own business and implement in repetitive tasks. With mos...

As any entrepreneur, one lives with a dream of being successful and creating an impact on society. Whether it’s a game changing product or a beneficial service that can change one’s life, that dream keeps the entrepreneur going. However, what about the process? The dream is a strong motivator, but the energy and effort go into the steps taken to accomplish that dream. As Yu shares, one needs a roadmap and to be well prepared to take on the hurdles and challenges ahead to reach their goals (Yu, pg. 123, 2021) Being aware of the roadmap helps lay out the entire process that will occur to develop customers and interest.  In the same mindset, it’s important to identify strengths first. Strengths allow one to understand what they are good at; what allows them to function as successfully as they do. Taking these strengths, one can use them towards their weaknesses and find ways to strengthen them. At times, the knowledge needed for certain processes will not be known and that is ok...

Week 6 - MBA 6101 - Guerrilla Marketing

Advertising is the most successful business in moving companies move forward and grow. Companies spend millions of dollars in advertising, including prime spots in the Super Bowl, to build their reputation and customer interest to drive sales. Even in the social media, companies pay strong and popular influencers to advertise their products and drive further sales to appeal to the youth. It is important for companies to take into consideration what type of advertising works today and what creates the most influence. Levinson shares a great quote from Leo Burnett, “plan the sale when you plan the ad”. (Levinson, pg. 59, 2007) The online medium is the new place to go to move product quickly. Online marketing is a strong platform to develop campaigns that impact a much larger audience than traditional marketing. Advertisers can develop a calendar with how long they would like the advertisements to continue with their partners. Advertisers even take advantage of the most recent trend: podc...

Week 5 - MBA 6101 - Surfing the Tsunami

AI is all around us and at this point, it has become inevitable. That is, according to Kelsey who believes that AI is consciously and unconsciously in everyone’s lives to some degree (Kelsey, p. 99, 2018). Kelsey also poses an interesting question: “Does it make sense to resist AI?” and in this case, I do not believe it does. In the early days of technology, AI was a dream and being able to automate certain processes as well as have a program do critical thinking or routine tasks was a fantasy. In today’s world, AI produces results and allows companies to grow at a quicker scale. Using the same example, Amazon scaled to its size today because of AI. AI found in its warehouses for shipping to online functions and services for customers allows it to continue to generate profit while human resources are used elsewhere. Smaller companies may have more trouble implementing AI as it can become costly and take longer to produce results. This makes sense for them to reject or resist, for the t...

Week 5 - MBA 6101 - Guerrilla Marketing

Image
For guerrilla marketing to be successful and produce strong profits, an entrepreneur can create a creative strategy that can accompany their product/service with something that will appeal the customer target. For example, Mr. Clean has many cleaning products that they believe offer the best option to combat dirty surfaces. To do this, the Mr. Clean team created a character that dances and makes cleaning look fun. In the same manner, it is important to find the drama of what one may offer and how it can benefit the audience target. (Levinson, p. 49-50, 2007) Creating a creative strategy allows one to test the market for profits and if what one is selling is going to have an impact on society. Nowadays, creative strategies revolve around social media and how to reach the world’s population. Social media can instantly make something go viral if it has the right plan on how to appeal to a large population immediately. The more something is seen and liked, the more it is shared and creates...

To be successful in your business, it is important to step back after the company has grown to a certain level of success. Stepping back allows one to assess their current state and where they currently stand in their growth. Yu shares that it is important to acclimate to the customer’s voice and find methods to grow and distinguish oneself. (Yu, pg. 93, 2021) During the company’s growth, certain sets of customers will immediately align with the company and the products/services it offers. These customers are a strong foundation that the company can build on and invite prospective customers. In today’s world, this key fact can be seen in social media exposure of companies. Many companies work social media influencers or individuals that truly follow the company’s overall motto and goals. These individuals, at times, can become ambassadors for the company and in return, receive discount codes or a certain percentage of the sales made using their links. This offers a much wider rea...
